Panic Goes Hawaiian

I made a promise in a status meeting long ago: when we finished Coda 2 and Diet Coda we’d all go on a trip.

So, we (very) carefully timed it so that when our apps were In Review, Panic would be In Hawaii.

Coordinating the travel felt like putting together a shuttle launch. (We cashed in over 900,000 frequent flier miles that we’d been squirreling away through our Alaska Airlines Visa since Panic was born!) Ultimately, it was super rewarding for Steve and me to have everyone’s families in one place, together. We turned the Beach Cottages at Turtle Bay into our own weird, cool little commune, walking up and down the lawn and greeting our familiar, but now tropical, neighbors. And these guys took the trip and ran with it — so much swimming, hiking, surfing lessons, great food, unimaginably beautiful beach drives, and the most relaxing hammock time in the world.

Now, the Apple surprises that popped up while we were In Review made it a little less than 100% relaxing for me, but I’ll tell you this: if you have to be making last-minute changes — such as removing the “iCloud” logo from our first launch screen? — there’s no better place to submit new builds than right here:

It felt like one of those moments in life we’ll always look back to with warm fondness.

Those are important.

Soooo cool.

I especially love that the leaves out your window resemble your icon so much.

Good work on the apps BTW.

truly inspiring and hopefully other orgs learn from this type of shared reward enjoyment. it’s not always about the cash!

What particularly impresses me about this is you didn’t just take the engineers, but their spouses and children. Sounds like a company with real family values embedded in it. :)

My wife and I got married last September right in front of those beach cottages, and we stayed in one of the cottages for our honeymoon. Glad to see the Panic team got to enjoy a gorgeous vacation after putting in what I assume to be many long days and nights working to knock out two apps at once. Well deserved, fellas.

But just think how much more fun the trip would’ve been if you *had* sold Audion to Apple:

Panic is a class act from stem to stern. I’m so envious of your employees.

Congrats from The Escapers! I was in Turtle Bay last year, a wonderful place to wait out the review!

Way to go and well deserved. Where will you go after Coda 3?

Beautifully stated, and so true.
This is what life is made of. Moments. Kudos to Panic for helping make some memorable ones.

Thanks Guys. Candy Bar makes my desktop a much more appealing space. Good luck to all.

I’m really thrilled for you guys, your success is well deserved and your products are the BEST, hands-down. Keep making cool tools I can use, I’ll keep buying ’em.

Wow! The Panic Family has grown! I haven’t followed your blog much but I have seen you guys from the early days of Panic, and you all have been an inspiration. Keep up the good stuff, and I hope your Hawaii vacation was off the wall!!

I smell trickery in the top photo (with laptop and bay view), if not, its a very good photograph with extreme DOF which is what leads me to believe its two shots melded into one? Either that of F36 @! Congratulations, I’m just exploring your apps.

love the site interesting way of putting stuff together. CSS3 is AMAZING! isn’t it.
