It’s here.

Seven years after the first release of Transmit 4, our well-loved and widely-used macOS file transfer app, we sat down with an incredibly exhaustive list of ideas, and — this’ll sound like I’m exaggerating but I’m mostly sure I’m not — we did it all.

With one massive update we’ve brought everyone’s favorite file-transferring truck into the future with more speed, more servers, more features, more fixes, a better UI, and even Panic Sync. Everything from the core file transfer engine to the “Get Info” experience was rethought, overhauled, and improved.

It definitely wasn’t an easy task. It definitely took a while, especially with other apps to tend to as well. But this is what we do — we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Transmit, and Transmit users deserve the best.

Eager to learn more? Head over to our Transmit 5 internet web-site to get started! (We’ll also be updating the Transmit 5 Library with information over time!)

After so many massive improvements, we think Transmit 5 will meet your file transfer needs and then some. But there’s always more to do, and we’ll be listening closely to your ideas and improving Transmit 5 often. (In fact, work on 5.0.1 is already underway!) Let us know how Transmit can help you do your job. This truck is your truck.

Of course, my deepest thanks and appreciation to all of the amazing people at Panic who made Transmit 5 happen. Starting with Wade and Will, of course, who have lived and breathed this app for a long time, but almost everybody at Panic was involved: Aaron, Heather, Ashur, Logan, Tim, Jesus, Steve, Patrick, Helen, Thomas, Greg, James, Neven, June, Noby and Kenichi all do critical work that made this app as good as it is. (Dan and Dave and Shaun were off working on something else but they still deserve thanks too!)

It’s pretty amazing that we’ve been working on the same app for 20 years, and it’s pretty amazing that it’s still exciting to release an update for it. Thank you so much for buying Transmit, supporting Panic, and allowing us to bring even more software into this world.

Enjoy it!

Get Transmit 5!!

Where to Download

Head over to the Transmit 5 web site and hit that big “Try it” button. Our trial version is also the full version; just purchase to unlock the full app.

Where to Buy

Just head over to the same Transmit 5 web site and hit “Buy it”. Your serial number will be delivered immediately and unlock all the features of Transmit 5.

(If you have Apple Pay, we highly recommend the “Buy With Apple Pay button” — it’s like magic!)

One thing you should know: Transmit 5 is on sale for $35 for one week only. If you want the cheapest price for Transmit 5 you should grab it now before it goes up to its new regular price of $45. (Yes, we’re finally accounting for inflation.)

FAQ

Q: How much is it?
A: For a limited time — one week — only $35. After that, $45.

Q: Is there an upgrade discount?
A: No, it’s one price for all customers. (Fun fact: it’s been seven years since we last charged for an update to Transmit!)

Q: Is it in the Mac App Store?
A: No, just from us. This allows us to distribute a demo which we think is extremely helpful for people considering Transmit. (We’ll constantly re-evaluate the Mac App Store, though, and hope to return.)

Q: How many computers can I use it on?
A: Up to five computers, as long as you are the only user. For multi-user licenses, contact us!

Q: What if I just bought Transmit 4?
A: We’ve got you covered! If you bought from us after June 1st (or maybe even a little earlier), grab your Transmit 4 serial number and go here. If you bought from the Mac App Store in that timeframe, please send us an e-mail and we’ll help you out.

Q: How can I sync my favorite servers to Transmit on another Mac?
A: Using Panic Sync! Just make an account in Preferences and you’re off and running. It’s free, secure, fast, simple, lets us sync your data with other Panic apps, and makes it easy for us to troubleshoot. You can read more about it here.

Q: How can I have transfer status always shown?
A: The new Activity View in Transmit 5 is designed to focus on what Transmit is doing at the moment. But if you want something you can always look at while you work, choose View > Show Activity Bar to show Transmit 4-like status bar at the bottom of the window.

Q: Anything new in Transmit Disk?
A: Actually, not much — Transmit 5 essentially ships with Transmit Disk 4 with a few updates. We’re currently figuring out what to do, given the inevitability that Apple will remove support for kernel extensions, which Transmit Disk relies on. But we have some ideas — we’ll keep you posted!

Q: Will it be seven years before the next major Transmit update?
A: I sure hope not!

Excellent update, already purchased! A couple of things I’ve noticed:

– I really miss being able to see all pending file transfers. “Uploading 12 of 50…” isn’t too helpful.
– Not sure about the activity window being a popup, transmit 4 seems better to me, however, I’ll probably get used to it.
– When there is a upload conflict, is there no skip option? or does stop refer to a single file or the entire transfer set?
– Also with upload conflicts is really hard to see longer filenames.

Apart from these, really liking the update already!

Panic Says: activity doesn’t have to be a pop-up — click the little icon in the corner of activity to make it its own window! And hold ‘option’ to see Skip, for now, until we redesign that conflict sheet. And as for seeing all pending transfers, please e-mail us some information on why this is helpful for your workflow so we can continue to improve Transmit!

Beautiful- thanks for your hard work!

I still don’t get how Panic succeeds in getting me so excited about an FTP client. Yet, you do.

Very happy with the arrival of Panic Sync. It’s a pity OpenSSH keys aren’t supported anymore, but the built-in key generator made the transition painless. Great job, boys and girls!

A paid upgrade! Without upgrade pricing! Are you serious!? You took our $30 in 2005 for Panic 3 … then $20 more in 2010 to upgrade to Panic 4 … now here we are in 2017 and have the audacity to ask for $35 MORE dollars. What, ALL of your developers want to eat this month? Next you’ll be telling us their kids want 3 square meals a day as well. It’s absurd. I really expected you to make our $50 go further over the last 12 years.

And clearly you’re getting HUGE kickbacks from BackBlaze, Google, Rackspace, Microsoft and all these other “choices” you’ve “given” us. I mean, what company would honestly just add 10 new cloud services to improve their product? I don’t see anyone else doing that. When you launch building.panic.com next month and we can change the color of the entire building from anywhere in the world …. we’ll know about those lucrative kickbacks … we’ll know.

You won’t be getting $35 from me anytime soon. No way. I’m going to hold out at least a week! We’ll see if you change your pricing structure then! And then see what you get out of me!!

P.S. I’m so glad BackBlaze finally ponied up for B2 support! :-D I mean … how dare you? That’s obviously why they have to charge so much … to cover all the kickbacks.

[NOTE: We are 96% sure this post is satire. We think. Please keep that in mind before replying. —Panic]

Also, I’ve purchased many products that were on the App Store while also having a direct sales option — and I’m a MacOS dev myself. Are you really trying to imply that posting on the App Store requires that you do not offer a free demo version that’s downloadable from your website? I mean, feel free not to do that (at a cost of sales, the same way that silly people don’t take Amex), but own it — don’t blame demos.

The addition of the Dropbox integration is amazing. I’ve been wanting this type of feature for years so I can connect up to a Dropbox account without having to link up a computer and have it try and sync up tons of files, when all I want is to access a couple of files. Thank you!

Are the newer S3 servers supported with the HMAC 4 encoding?

This is an awesome update, thanks Panic team! Finally have the option to sync both Coda and Transmit with Panic Sync, and it works great – though now it’s up to me to clean up years of sites I added separately to the MAS version of Transmit synced to iCloud. Favorites were due for a bit of spring cleaning anyhow. This app is crazy fast and looks amazing, can’t beat the price for all those features. Love it!

It’d be nice to have a list somewhere of what was actually changed in this version, but I bought it anyway, because it’s basically THE BEST file transfer application that actually respects the user.

Let’s look at the competition: Cyberduck (the best free one) has a lot of weird minor but annoying issues. Fetch hasn’t been meaningfully updated since Bill Clinton was president. FileZilla is a user interface catastrophe. Am I missing any?

Plus, it’s actually a PURCHASE and not some nickel-and-diming-you subscription model.

Firewatch tyres, of course!

Instant purchase – great update! Is that thing fast or is this placebo effect? Great job on the website too!
The only thing missing (for me) is a nice dark mode … maybe in a 5.x update?

Looks like a nice update! UI changes and key generation are very welcome.

I agree with you too Richard – I’d like an App Store version as well. However my guess for why they’ve had to leave is because version 4 wasn’t sandboxed (and I think was submitted at a time when this wasn’t a requirement?)

I don’t need an ftp client much these days but I’m buying it because Panic makes it.

Why is Panic Sync disabled in the trial version. I have Transmit 4 and Transmit for iOS and Panic Sync was the only thing I wanted to test in the demo. If I can’t test the feature I would why would I upgrade? Seems like a silly thing to disable in a 7 day trial.

Where is the magic Apple Pay button? I only see credit cards and PayPal.

Honestly, some of these haters on here are so insane. I love this comment: “I really expected you to make our $50 go further over the last 12 years.” Wow. $50 for 12 years, are you serious? Software meticulously designed over 12 years is worth way more than $50. Colin, how does that haterade taste?

love the update but same as 1. post:

– I really miss being able to see all pending file transfers. “Uploading 12 of 50…” isn’t too helpful.
– Not sure about the activity window being a popup, transmit 4 seems better to me, however, I’ll probably get used to it.
– Also with upload conflicts is really hard to see longer filenames.

I pressed the cursor-forward key for a long time to get into the “Pole Position”-Mode (think namco) with the truck, but you seem to have forgotten about that easteregg – home come? we need this for “more wow”. I try again next week

+ for ssh key management

Yippee! Awesome release peeps. Been waiting for aaaaggeesss!

I’m not sure I want to pay more for an upgrade than I paid to purchase the product originally, especially since it is the first upgrade since I purchased the product. It’s not my fault you took 7 years to upgrade. Look at it this way. If you did upgrades more frequently you would have gotten more than $35.00 from me over the last 5 years. I’ll probably wait for Transmit 6 before “upgrading”, to see if you are serious about supporting it.

I also got a promo code for ExpanDrive. How does ExpanDrive compare to Transmit (which I bought)?

@Simon – If you use Safari, there will be an Apple Pay button available to purchase Transmit. Other browsers (such as Chrome) won’t have it.
@Nathaniel – As Panic has even made note, Colin’s post is likely dripping with a heavy dose of sarcasm and snark. Fortunately, it looks that most of Panic’s customers are happy to pay for T5. But if T5 doesn’t offer anything useful that T4 already provides, then I’d recommend to keep using T4 for the time being. I recently used Transit 1.7 on an old Mac running Mac OS 9, and it did what I needed. :D .

Transmit 2 brought the app over to Mac OS X. Transmit 3 had some nice refinements. Transmit 4 updated the UI and added Transmit Disk. I was wondering what else could Panic add to Transmit, and they answered! The Dropbox integration (plus other services) is awesome.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who bought it sight unseen (I bought even before downloading).

I’m happy to support Panic via this purchase, as it goes towards not only the development of Transmit, but also supports a company creates other great software products, does the right and moral thing in many dimensions (pricing, transparency when things go wrong) and is generally upping the bar for Mac apps across the board.

For the folks who are are upset about shelling out the $35.00 — @Cabel/@Steve/others, feel free to send me a note via my email address attached to this comment, I’m glad to buy 10 more licenses that you can dole out to the most crabby of antagonists! For real!

Thanks for making great software.

I’ve been lurking on Transmit for a while expecting an update. Bought it immediately and unseen from iOS as soon as I saw the announcement. Playing around with it this morning, I’m more than happy with that decision.

Great work…again.

Love the update. I’ve been using Transmit since I got into web development back in 2010. The feature I am most happy about is the Dropbox integration…finally, a way to view/edit/delete Dropbox files without having to sync them (and their massive size) to my hard drive. Game changer. Plus, all the UI updates are super nice as well. Thanks Panic team!

Whats about localisation?

I use transmit every day with Amazon S3. This is a great app! I love this new version.
My remaining wishes..
1. File preview in Cover Flow. (instead of genetic image)
2. Search files in different folder directory.

Panic, you are honestly an inspiration with the standards of your apps. Thank you for another amazing product, the addition of the numerous features make this a no brainer for all who already own Transmit 4. Well worth the $35, even with the current exchange rate in South Africa. :P

I’ll buy it sight unseen. (I loved my Fetch, but it’s just hard to look at these days. Makes me feel old.)

FYI, the iOS version has been a workhorse for me. It’s made my iPad a practical daily user.

I bought the last version and didn’t use it. I suspect I will buy this version and also not use it. The Panic Team is just that good.

I am a big fan of Transmit. Have been using v4 for a long time.
I have bought it today. But it cannot connect to half of my servers. Works with Yummy and Filezilla which I don’t like that much because their UI is too cluttered.

But not being able to connect to my FTP servers with the same credentials like in those other FTP programs is a bummer.
I already wrote the support an email.

But are there are people who experience the same problem ?

Christian

7/20/2017 2:12 AM

I am a big fan of Transmit since 1.something, but, what a pity, I have no need for all the new connections in T5 or Panic Sync. So I am not yet sure if I will update or stick with T4 (which still does everything I need; hope this will be true on Sierra!)

Patrick Welker

7/20/2017 4:03 AM

Bought it even though I thought I couldn’t use it before upgrading to the latest macOS, but turns out I misread the info and it works on 10.11.

Still, I really had my fingers crossed for ED25519 support this time – after all the feature request must have a pretty long gray beard by now (https://library.panic.com/general/ssh-keys/).

I’d also have liked for everything to “just work” out of the box. Most of my connections from the Mac don’t work anymore, those synced via Panic sync from iOS don’t work either (, but at least the still work on iOS). So, I’ll have to set them up again –
which admitted – now is less of a pain than it used to be.

The thing I’m curious about is what will become of Transmit Disk, because in all honesty, the current solutions offered by ExpanDrive and others are always feeling like a hack – they’re just not reliable and you have to babysit any transfer.

All that said, I expect to be happy with Transmit for the next couple years.

Bought and installed. Very nice, thank you Panic! As a satisfied long time T4 user I would have bought it anyway – just the speed upgrade is worth the price already.

I hope we can write notes in a note box

I just discovered this update after trying to buy another licence through the VPP app store to find it’s disappeared. The update looks great but I’d like to be able to use it through our device management, if it could return to the app store I’d appreciate it!

Well,
as I was saying :),
Transmit is part of my daily life, and I have purchased the last version without even see what was new!
At a first look it looks great :)
Looking forward for a more cloud possibilities, such as Swift.

Good Job!!!

I love Transmit, but I only use it maybe a half-dozen times a year. Wish I didn’t have to spend $35 (or $45!) for something I use so rarely. Wish there was a $/GB transferred fee that would cap out at $45 — then I feel like I win either way, don’t pay much if I don’t use it much, or if I end up using it a lot then it was worth the full price.

Otherwise I (and people like me) aren’t likely to pay anything…

Panic had it’s up and down.

How Unison was treated is still hurting my feelings, even though I am not using newsgroups anymore. It’s a very big down.

As for the up, Transmit has always been reliable and I was hoping this version 5 would correct all the small quirks that didn’t ruined the experience, but didn’t help it either.

So far, the quirks are mostly gone and I am just missing some localization for comfort, but it’s otherwise good and I believe my money was well spent (even though I rather like Mac App Store).

My biggest complaint is that there is an option of the interface I still can’t find: how to turn off the kitsch.

No App Store version no sale!

I really don’t care about a demo and I think it’s just a bad excuse for not delivering through the App Store.

Awesome app update & seems like a great set of new features, can’t wait to put all these to good use.

I was happy with it, I finally bought the iOS version which is just as amazing in different ways, but most notably photos can be FTP’ed directly to website from the Photos app.

Glad this “direct to consumer” … the App store only matters for apps that are only sold there; given the choice I’d pay the same & save Apple’s cut for developers.

Hi, Panic disk not compatible with High Sierra

Using the trial version and like it a lot except for having no way to view my list of servers without the folders sidebar, icons, and server address. In T4, I could see the full names of the servers without making the window larger or switching to single pane view, but in T5, the names are cut too short to be useful due to the large icon that is now there, the folder sidebar which can not be closed or made smaller, and the inability to enlarge the server name column or make the server address column smaller. If I make the Transmit window its smallest size, which used to be fine in T4, I can only see the first 1 or 2 letters of each server name.

Would be great if there was some control or customization available for the remote server list. Other than that, I love the new features and changes, but having no control over viewing that server list is turning out to be a bigger deal than I would have guessed because I connect to many different servers every day and currently need to adjust the window every time.

Can you give us the possibility to change the size of the servers connection ? In fact when i reduce my window, I can’t read nicely the name serveur. When you make a norm like “CLIENT WEBSITE ENVIRONNEMENT” you can’t read the informations.
Kind regards,

I’m overall pleased with it. Google Storage is a serious omission and I’ve found Dropbox transfers to be quite unstable – dropped connections and gateway timeouts. Other than that, a solid upgrade that is going to need some tweaking.

I love Transmit!

But i only buy it in the Mac App Store!!!

I hate it to go to several web sites to check for updates of my Mac Apps.

I love the idea of the Mac App Store to have all my Apps in one place and can update all from there.

I will pay also a higher price for Transmit 5 – but only if the App is in the Mac App Store!!!

Bring the stuff back in the Mac App Store, Dudes!!!

Sorry, I tried it but don’t like it.
– the “folder link” feature seems not working properly, I assume you can fix it quickly.
– I don’t like the new color scheme and big icons – it “focus” my eye’s to something I don’t want.
I’ll buy the upgrade to support your work – but I would love to keep the old “simple, less colored” style. Is the a style switcher?

Thanks guys finally for the update – the UI and the faster FTP connections are the most impressive features :)

Cons:
– Still very confused on the “Places Bar”. Content seems to arbitrarily change…it turned from unhelpful into just downright confusing.
– Also confused on Panic Sync…seems like I still have to re-enter all passwords, even though they exist in Panic Sync for iOs devices?
– Also, Panic Sync seems to have some quirks….deleting Server Groups (folders) on Transmit 5 does not delete on iOs app.
– Not sure on the UI for the servers…seems really simple. The new folder structure on the left is less than easy to navigate – and it shows up two duplicate options when searching for a server: the bottom one being the “history” entry, which asks for a password when you double click…and the top one being the real server. I fail to see how this is necessary.

Just found this hidden gem :)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cwr0kqw7xwcgssm/Screenshot%202017-07-26%2011.51.20.png?dl=0

Overall – great, but would be nice to get a more functional UI, as requested over the years…including a Save and Connect button to save SO MUCH time when adding a server – than saving, then finding it, then double clicking to connect.

I’m looking forward to trying out the new features – but I immediately discovered the speed improvements were easily worth the price.

Bravo, Panic!

Looks great! Coda 3 is next, right? Soon?!!

Love the update.Bought on day one. But my number one use for Transmit is uploading many files to a server. As mentioned in previous comments.

– I really miss being able to see all pending file transfers. “Uploading 12 of 50…” isn’t too helpful.
– Not sure about the activity window being a popup.

For my workflow this feels like a step backward as now rather then drag and drop 30 files at once I feel I have to drag one at a time and monitor their completion rather then all at once. Hope the old method is re-implimented in an update.

Fantastic as always – Thanks!

Just got the new version and with all the new sever types added I was surprise nit to find one for Amazon Glacier? or have I just nt yet found it?

Been a Transmit user for a long time, and been waiting a LONG time for T5. Maybe the anticipation led me to overestimate what it might have become during the long feature freeze, but at this point, I’m not buying.

The redesign is decent, and I’m sure the cloud services are welcome additions for anyone who needs them. But…

Over the years I’ve transitioned most of my storage to Amazon S3, and unfortunately T5 doesn’t provide good S3 management capability. I can’t do lifecycle management within Transmit, so I have to go to Cyberduck (or the S3 dashboard, but meh). If I have to open Cyberduck to do half the job, I might as well use it for the entire job; it provides all the same cloud services, if I happen to need them.

I’m a little surprised that in the 7 years between major releases, functions like this weren’t fleshed out.

I’ll definitely watch the product and see if version 5 evolves, but for now, I’m keeping my money.

The new version looks great! I was initially disappointed that Sync wasn’t available in the demo, but I am sure it’s going to work fine. I’ve been around since version 1.x and it’s only gotten better every version, no reason to think it won’t now.

Either way, I started poking around and noticed my Favorites were already there so I can easily and quickly test my current connections like FTP and S3, and now try some other Cloud services like Amazon Drive, Google Drive and OneDrive. Thanks for the great and always inexpensive software!

Great update! when is the new release of Coda 3? I am so looking forward for it as I am using Coda 2 for all my coding works.

WOW! Transmit 5 is fast as the light! Incredible!

My old Transmit 4 worked fine, except for two things:
The newer authentication method for certain AWS regions and the inability to sync between two remote locations.
This has both been fixed in the new 5 update, so that alone makes it wel worth the upgrade.

One thing: for the icon you can choose “use server icon”. This does not always seem to work, even if I am sure that the server has a favicon. And why not make this default so that you do not have to change it on every server?

Overall a solid upgrade but please consider adding in a permanent transfer progress status indicator instead of a popout window with needs to be called up every single time. Transmit 4 had this nailed.

Update:
View > Show Activity Bar was what I overlooked, thanks Cabel ;)

Transmit is an app I always have open I use it that regularly, and despite only using old school (s)FTP connections the update has that shiny new Apple product feeling, is a lot snappier and works out of the online box with all my servers set up in T4. I can’t remember the time before I started using this app. $35 well spent for another 7 years of quality ‘it just works’ app development. Am I the only person here who prefers buying outside of the App Store? Maybe release an App Store version with the 30% markup Apple takes from you to satisfy those who prefer it but I am a very happy customer. Thanks for all your hard work and keep it up!

Waiting for AppStore version.

I am pretty satisfied with transmit 4 and not keen on buying 5 but i have just bought transmit 5 for supporting you and coda 3. thanks.

I like the speed, really have the idea it improved a lot but

As mentioned in previous comments.
– I really miss being able to see all pending file transfers. “Uploading 12 of 50…” isn’t too helpful.
– Not sure about the activity window being a popup.

Hope the ‘transmit 4’ upload screen get reintroduced in a future update

I second what Nathan said at the start about the uploads being less useful in 5 compared to 4. There was more individual control there.

I also experienced a few crashes during some transfer sessions, and that was pretty painful. Other than that, great stuff, everyone!

Overall this looks great, but I have to say I probably won’t be upgrading – really was looking out for google cloud storage as an option, and while I get these 10 new integrations must have taken a serious amount of time it’s a real shame this option was omitted.

Overall I think the choice of integrations seems interesting . – google drive but no google cloud being the most questionable. As someone who only ever uses S3 and google storage (and on occasion SSH/FTP) this update becomes hard to justify save for some speed and UI improvements. Would also have been nice to see some of the more advanced S3 commands make it in like lifecycle management and CORS configs available in other tools like cyberduck.

Nice update, but i can’t see hidden files on my remote server.
Works on local server with option ‘show invisible files’ but not on remote ?
Do u have an update on the way to fix that ?

Thank’s

– I really miss being able to see all pending file transfers. “Uploading 12 of 50…” isn’t too helpful.
– When there is a upload conflict, is there no skip option? or does stop refer to a single file or the entire transfer set?
– Also with upload conflicts is really hard to see longer filenames.
– I miss the German localisation

Please bring back the transfer queue. It was useful to prioritise or cancel certain files in a download batch.

Can no longer browse folders while a download is in progress. Status bar says waiting…

“…we’ll be listening closely to your ideas and improving Transmit 5 often”

We use Transmit Disk with Amazon S3 storage to access PDF ad files for publication. A remote server saves updated PDFs to S3. Our 20+ users then ‘grab’ those updates, thus refreshing the ads on their InDesign pages.
In instances when these update and grab processes occur quickly, the new ad isn’t yet available on the user side. As we understand it, they need to unmount/re-mount the Transmit Disk volume to assure they have up-to-date content.
As a feature – if there is any way to do this – it would be very useful to have a means to trigger the cache refresh in a more elegant way.
Thanks for the update!

Always when I’m open a file in a extern editor, I use the Atom, the Transmit shows me, after a short time: “Couldn’t get remote handle. Make sure you have permission to modify this file.” Do you have a work around for this case?

Hi,
I looked around but couldn’t find any information on the language options of Transmit 5. Is it possible to switch it to German?

For my workflow this feels like a step backward as now rather then drag and drop 30 files at once I feel I have to drag one at a time and monitor their completion rather then all at once. Hope the old method is re-implimented in an update.

Major regression and for me this would have been a deal breaker if I hadn’t already purchased Transmit5. No way to monitor in real time the flow of traffic, cancel individual transfers or anything. I have reinstalled Transmit 4 as while 55 is smarter and no doubt more improved, it is essentially useless if I cannot properly monitor transfers. Please can Panic address this issue which is fundamental to so many of us.

Very nice work. I’ll echo others and say that I, too, miss the old transfers window. I’ll add that I miss a dedicated 1/2-pane toggle on the toolbar. Any chance of getting AFP support?

Great product, reasonable pricing, but it does leave a bitter taste in the mouth for those of use who bought Transmit 4 in the last year or so. You would think a token 10% upgrade discount – or at least a ‘heads up’ email about the opening week discount could foster some goodwill?… Of course, I guess they know I won’t go elsewhere and will eventually cough up the full price. *Sigh*.

Works well, thank you. I upgraded immediately.

Just one or two gripes…

1. Please add me to the growing list of users who really miss the file transfers window. Being able to drill down into the pending and completed list was very helpful. I would love this to be a pane as before, not a separate window. The pop-up is of little use. (Yes, I know you can turn it into a window, but that’s not as useful as before either)

2. I know it’s Apple’s move to ‘flat’ UIs, but I find the Tab bar is now very unclear as to which tab is live. Very odd that the live tab is the one greyed out, while all the others are bright! This is backwards and reversed from tabs in Safari, Sublime Text,Path Finder etc etc where the live tab is the bright one. Either way the contrast difference between the two is very little.

3. You used to be able to double-click in the tab bar to add a new tab. That’s gone. Please bring it back.

@Panic: 1. and 3. Yes!

@ Mike: Please send e-mails to Panic. I don’t see any official feedback in this blog.

1 more for the return of the transfer window. It was the first thing I missed. I uploaded huge bunch of files and can’t see how I can selectively stop some of them as it just shows the top 5. Please bring that back as I really can’t justify the upgrade otherwise, and I would like to keep supporting you.

Rob

After updating 5.0.3 my favorite has disappeared

Can I upload symlinks in Transmit 5 in SFTP Mode?

Installed Sierra. Bought Transmit 5. Love the look and feel, but *crash*. Restart. *Crash*. Downloaded Transmit 4, no crashes so far. Will stay on T4 till I hear T5 is stable on Sierra.. i use Transmit all day, indispensable software. 4 or 5 doesn’t matter to me, both get the job done.

Why did´nt you translate Transmit 5?

Am I the only one who thinks that the truck at the top of this post looks like it’ll fall over?

Awesome update. I’ve been using for a couple of weeks now and have to say this is probably the best FTP client I’ve seen in 20 years. It’s easy to use and integrated well into the Mac world. Thank you so much and keep up the good work.

Similar problem as Rudra (8/14/2017), not only with Atom, but with Sublime Text also, quite often and not only when external editors are part of the game: “Couldn’t get remote handle. Make sure you have permission to modify this file.”

Hello, I found the subject of your article very interesting. I wanted to leave here the link of a free hosting company in Venezuela that has the most popular solutions to create web pages such as MySQL database and SQLite, free domains, automatic installation of WordPress scripts, Joomla and more, varied range of PHP versions, unlimited transfer, secure FTP (FTPS), integrated web analysis, activation of the instant service. https://www.zz.com.ve/ in case you want to visit them.

There’s a f***king error after every upload action with a replace tagging.

What is going on with panic and their apps. Unbelievable.

Add me to the list of people who are upset of about Activity Sheet/Window. It’s definitely a step backwards from the last version. It’s confusing, shows less information, and is less functional. Try using the old Transmit where one file stall/fails versus the new. On the new version it’s confusing to see what happened, what to do, and what’s going on when you figure it out. Plus it takes more steps to resume. Please bring back the old Activity… it can just be the functionality. I don’t care if it’s a tab, sheet or window.

It’s also a bummer that Transmit isn’t in the App Store anymore.

As far as everything else, it’s great and well worth the full price.

Like Heiko, above, I’m not a massive fan of the new colour scheme. The blue/green of the sync icon clashes nastily with the blue truck in the app switcher and there seems to be less space for tabs if you have more than a handful of buttons in the toolbar. I would still love a keyboard shortcut for the Synchronize command (which would remove my need for one of the buttons in the toolbar), something requested since the early days of v4. I would also echo Mike’s comments about the tab highlighting which seems counterintuitive. And +1 for the activity window back.

Having said that, these are relatively minor issues – overall it’s a great app.

Same as Dave, when I try to mount my SFTP servers as disks, I got this error : “The server protocol or authorization method is currently unsupported by Transmit Disk”. I use SSH keys for SFTP connexions. Is this normal? Is there something planned? Thanks!

I have noticed that the latest version crashes a lot on high sierra and it crashes a lot when you queue a bunch of items and do another one. The old version would handle it well and allow us to modify the queue (order) easily (impossible to do on this version). Moreover, any refresh, moves, etc would be prioritized over transfers allowing us to edit folders and move files while transfers are ongoing. This one just puts everything on hold until previous queue is over. All-in-all none of the new features amount to the level of broken things from the previous version. The minimum would have been to issue a product that works better and has the same functionalities as the previous version at the least. Fix this asap please as I feel robbed.

Hi transmit. I pinged you guys via twitter a couple of months ago. I’m still receiving the same issue as user @bolino above. I’m able to mount sftp shares as drives using Transmit 4 but not 5. Can you please assist?

Just switched back to Mac and was excited to try Transmit, but the lack of being able to see pending transfers and easily see what’s downloading/uploading and at what speeds kind of killed this for me. Currently trialing, won’t be buying. I will keep an eye on the future development though.

Same problem as Rudra (8/14/2017) and Carsten Witt (9/26/2017), using Sublime Text and SFTP: “Couldn’t get remote handle. Make sure you have permission to modify this file.” This happens after an arbitrary amount of time… I can usually modify and save a file a a few times, if I hurry…

Opening Transmit5 not only always autoconnect and then always opens the last folder (even if you have already double-clicked to start opening a different folder). Trashing the prefs (as panic support suggests) seems to be a fix for 2-3 days, then it just goes back to opening automatically. There’s a setting for it that appears to have no effect, may be this is a fix-in-progress.

Also, why is the inspector a dockable window but the transfers window NOT dockable on the main window? I *really* need to have that thing present a LOT and having it as a pop out window just means I lose it amongst my 30+ different windows across 3 monitors…. the “activity bar” is no substitute. Seems a really odd choice to allow dockable windows then not allow one of them to dock.

I work around these [and it’s many other minor occasional] issues, otherwise very happy with the app.

I have the same issue with SFTP reported multiple times here: “Couldn’t get remote handle. Make sure you have permission to modify this file.” Please fix this.

Still awaiting response form your tech support. We have a lab with 16 licenses and a need to manage the lab computer with a deployment system (Filewave). We use AD, so everyone logs in with their own credentials. We need to license the machine, not the user. The support ticket have been open since Nov 2.

I had a productive back and forth going with your support team through September 12th. I am experiencing a weird bug on my end with Transmit 5 that support couldn’t replicate. I understand how that goes. I was told they would need to talk to developers and report back to me about status of issue. I have since emailed support on 9/25, 10/16, 10/27, & 11/4 for an update. I hate posting this because support was really helpful when they finally got to my ticket (July 28th submission) but this is just ridiculous. I bought Transmit 5 and signed up for a B2 account for a specific job. I need to know some sense of the timeline for eventual repair or whether this is something that will never get corrected. Very surprised by the lack of response. I submitted my original ticket on July 28th.

i’m looking forward to upgrading Transmit sometime, BUT SO HELP ME if transmit 4 doesn’t stop bugging me about it every time i launch the thing, i’m going to murder something. I GET IT ALREADY.

i am so disappointed about this version nr. 5
after restarting the app the window forgets all icons in the toolbar and my predefined column view,
sometimes the license screen appears and then hide away.
it crashes while uploading.
the inspector window moves over the columns or sometimes it becomes its own window.
i am get angry while i work with this version and this isn’t what i want while i am using a ftp-tool.

Is there any ETA on when we might be able to mount servers using SSH keys in Transmit Disk on High Sierra?

I wholeheartedly regret upgrading to High Sierra since I can no longer mount my servers as volumes. I understand things have changed, just wondering if it looks like it will ever be possible again in the near future?

Not interested in paying more for something I just paid for – Sorry

You purchased this product on 2017-02-09 17:02:05, before or after the free upgrade window (2017-05-01 to 2017-08-01) If you feel this is in error, please contact us. Click OK to go back and make changes.

v5 sucks. i always get the “Couldn’t get remote handle. Make sure you have permission to modify this file.” at some point making it impossible to transfer many files at once. contacted support in september 2017, that is long gone. like really really long. no support or any message, except the auto-reply one. panic support sucks big time

Hi,
V5 seems to crash on HS a LOT. I love this app, please release a fix soon.

Nice, will probably get it when it comes to MAS. Would be nice to buy with my credit on my Apple ID.

Seriously, great job. Best version yet. Took me all of 5 seconds of trying it out to know it was worth the purchase. Really nice interface upgrades. Just a great solid application!

Hi, version 5 is great but please please please can you provide an update on where you are with SSH support for Transmit Disk? This is a really common use case.

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you had any plans to add dark mode to Transmit? This would be a really neat feature and would reduce the eye strain for those of us who use your app day and night. Thanks!
